IUSB Beats Saint Mary's at the Buzzer, 67-66
SOUTH BEND, IN – Stacy Spurgeon hit a running jumper in the lane as the buzzer sounded to lift IUSB to a 67-66 victory over Saint Mary's Tuesday evening in a non-conference match-up between the two schools just five miles apart.
The win lifts IUSB's record to 3-12 while the Belles fall to 3-7.
In a game in which the Lady Titans led through out but never led by more than 12 points, the Belles took their first lead of the game with 3:08 left in the contest on an Anna Kammrath put back. IUSB took the lead back and held a 65-61 edge with 1:19 remaining after a Sara Syree lay-up.
Alison Kessler nailed a three-pointer on the Belles next possession to cut their deficit to 65-64 with just over a minute remaining. After IUSB missed a pair of three-pointers, Saint Mary's took a brief lead when Bridget Lipke nailed a baseline jumper with six seconds remaining to give the Belles a 66-65 lead. However, Spurgeon rushed down the court on the in-bounds for the jumper at the buzzer.
Lipke had a team best 14 points while Kammrath and Kessler each posted 12 points for Saint Mary's.
