Saint Mary's Holds Down Adrian
NOTRE DAME, IN – Anna Kammrath posted her third double-double of the season with a career high 25 points to go along with a 14-rebound effort while Alison Kessler chipped in 25 points in helping Saint Mary’s to a 84-72 win over Adrian Saturday afternoon in MIAA basketball action.
The win ups the Belles record to 6-10 overall and 5-4 in league play while Adrian falls to 7-9 and 2-7 respectively.
In the opening half the Bulldogs nailed their first six three-pointers in taking a 31-18 leads with 7:11 remaining in the half. The Belles took control the rest half by going on a 21-4 scoring run. During the scoring spurt, Kammrath accounted for nine of the Belles points.
The Belles never trailed in the second half but couldn’t quite put away a pesky Adrian squad. A Liz Hafeli lay-up with 15:28 left in the contest got the Bulldogs within 46-42 but the Belles responded with an 11-4 scoring run over the next 5:03 and Adrian never got within four-points the rest of the game.
Jenny Carlson got Adrian’s deficit down to 70-65 with 2:13 left on a jumper but the Belles were stout at the line the rest of the way, hitting 15-of-17 from the charity stripe.
In addition the Kammrath’s and Kessler’s efforts, Erin Newsom tallied 17 points while Bridge Lipke added 13 to go along with her game high seven assists.
Carlson led the way for the Bulldogs with 14 points.
