Calvin Holds Down Saint Mary's
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Calvin held Saint Mary’s to a season low 21.9 field goal percentage in posting a 75-44 win on Monday evening. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon but severe winter weather caused postponement of the contest.
The win lifts Calvin, the third ranked team in the nation, to 19-1 overall and 12-0 in MIAA play while Saint Mary’s falls to 9-11 and 8-5 respectively.
Calvin opened the game by nailing 17 of their 35 field goal attempts in the first half while holding the Belles to a 8-for-33 effort in the opening 20 minutes as they held a 34-21 edge and never looked back.
Alison Kessler led the Belles effort scoring 16 points on the strength of a 9-of-11 effort from the foul line. Kessler inched closer to her 1,000 th career point, with three regular season games remaining she needs 13 points. Erin Newsom grabbed a team high 10 rebounds for Saint Mary’s.
