Balance Brings Belles Tenth Win of Season

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich. - Six players scored at least seven points as the Saint Mary's basketball team notched their tenth win of the season with a 67-57 victory over Adrian on Tuesday night.

The Belles were able to jump out to a quick lead against the host Bulldogs on three buckets in the first 1:15 of the game.  Saint Mary's capitalized on a pair of back-to-back turnovers by Adrian to push the lead to nine points at 22-13 with 10:05 to go in the half.  The Bulldogs, however, climbed right back into the game and cut the score to 26-24 with less than four and a half minutes before the break as Saint Mary's shot 2-of-11 from the floor during that span.  The lead was completely wiped away as the teams were tied at 28-28, but the Belles regained the lead before the break and took a 32-29 advantage into the half.

Anna Kammrath and Patsy Mahoney hit a pair of shots to put Saint Mary's up by five, but once again the Bulldogs would battle their way back into the game.  Adrian used an 8-0 run over a 3:30 span to take a 39-36 lead early in the second half.  The Belles, however, responded right back with a 17-1 run of their own to regain the lead and control of the game by going up 53-40 with just over seven minutes to play.  Down the stretch, the Bulldogs were able to get within nine points of Saint Mary's, but would not get any closer as the Belles took their tenth win and fifth conference victory of the season.

The balanced offensive front of the Belles saw six players post at least seven points in the win.  Leading the way for Saint Mary's were sophomores Kelley Murphy and Patsy Mahoney.  Murphy had a team-high 16 points and a pair of blocked shots while Mahoney was also in double-digit scoring with 12 points.  Anna Kammrath, Annie Doyle, and Maggie Ronan each chipped in eight points while Jessica Centa had seven of her own to help pace the offense on the night.

With the win, the Belles (10-5, 5-2 MIAA) have notched their sixth straight double-digit win campaign dating back to the 2004-05 season.  Saint Mary's will have little rest as they host Albion on Thursday night at Angela Athletic Facility with tip-off being slated for 7:30 p.m.
