Belles Battle Past Scots
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's basketball team was able to battle past Alma in a physical MIAA contest by a 67-58 score on Saturday afternoon.
The Belles stormed out to a quick 11-2 lead in the first four minutes of the game. The Scots, however, showed everyone early that they were not going to go down without a fight as they came back to tie the game at 15-15 and 17-17 before taking their first lead of the game on a three-point play. Saint Mary's turned it on after that play and went on to outscore the Scots 22-10 over the final eight minutes of the half to take a 39-28 lead at the half.
In the second half, Alma was able to battle their way back into the game to get within four points of the Belles at 47-43, but Saint Mary's was able to respond each time the Scots made things interesting. Down the stretch, the Belles were able to maintain control of the game and never relinquished their lead to pick up the 67-58 win.
Kelley Murphy, Anna Kammrath, and Jessica Centa each had strong all-around performances for the Belles on Saturday. Murphy was the high scorer in the game with 20 points while also adding seven rebounds, five steals, and two blocked shots. Kammrath, meanwhile, had her first double-double of her senior season with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the win.
