Tigers Too Much in Tournament Final for Belles
GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Saint Mary's basketball team hit a bit of a bump in the road on Wednesday as they fell by a 90-60 score to host DePauw University in the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament Championship game.
With the win, the host Tigers extended their home-court winning streak to 42 straight wins at Neal Fieldhouse and 59 consecutive regular season wins at home.
The Belles were able to take and maintain an early lead against DePauw. Saint Mary's was able to grab as much as a six-point advantage at 10-4 just over four minutes into the game. The Tigers, however, tied the game 12-12 before the teams would trade the lead a pair of times. After the fifth tie of the game with the score knotted 24-24, DePauw went on a 16-3 run over a 6:23 span in the first half to take control of the game and go up 40-27.
After leading 46-31 at halftime, DePauw went on to out-score the Belles 44-29 in the second half for the 90-60 win. The Tigers also managed to score 31 points off of turnovers to Saint Mary's 13 in the game.
Anna Kammrath led the way for the Belles with 14 points. Katie Sullivan added 10 points of her own for the Belles. For their efforts in the two-day tournament, Kammrath and sophomore Kelley Murphy were both named to the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the game.
The Belles (7-4) will return to action on January 6 when they travel to Kalamazoo for an MIAA contest against the Hornets at 7:30 p.m.
