Balanced Belles Ground Cardinals
NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Five different players scored in double-digits and the Belles shot a blistering 59.4 percent from the floor as the Saint Mary's basketball team picked up a big 91-57 win over North Central (Ill.) on Saturday night.
The Belles broke a 17-17 tie on a good jumper by Maggie Ronan with 7:58 remaining in the first half and would keep the lead for good. Saint Mary's took a 38-28 lead into the half and used a 12-2 run over a 3:15 minute span in the second half to gain momentum for good in the game.
Saint Mary's broke the 90-point plateau for the first time since a 91-84 win over Hope last January 3 while the 59.4 field goal percentage is one of the best shooting performances by a Belles squad in the last decade.
Kelley Murphy led the Belles with a team-high 18 points on the night. Anna Kammrath, Patsy Mahoney, Maggie Ronan, and Jessica Centa also added double-digit efforts for Saint Mary's on the night. Kammrath had 14 points, Mahoney added 13, Ronan chipped in 12, and Centa had 10 in the victory. Liz Wade, meanwhile, had a career-high 11 assists on the night while being just one helper away from tying a school record.
The high-powered Belles (3-1) will return to Angela Athletic Facility to host Ohio Northern on Wednesday, December 2 at 7:00 p.m.
