Belles Mauled by Polar Bears
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's basketball team suffered an 82-60 setback at the hands of Ohio Northern on Wednesday night.
After scoring the first basket of the night, the Belles held their only lead against the visiting Polar Bears until Ohio Northern responded with a three-pointer on their first possession of the game. The Belles tied the game at 5-5 and were able to get within one point of Ohio Northern at 14-13, but the Polar Bears used a 19-3 run to cushion their lead and did not look back.
The Polar Bears were hot from the floor as they shot 58.1% from the floor in the first half and 52.5% for the game. The Belles, meanwhile, shot 31.9% from the floor in spite of taking ten more shots than ONU.
Three Belles reached double-digits on the night as Anna Kammrath led the way with a team-high 13 points and seven rebounds. Patsy Mahoney and Maggie Ronan had 10 points while Ronan shared team-high honors with seven rebounds for Saint Mary's.
Saint Mary's (3-2) will open up the conference portion of their season this Saturday as they host in-state MIAA rival Trine at 3:00 p.m. at the Angela Athletic Facility.
