SMC vs. Olivet
Kammrath Pulls Down Record as Belles Win on Senior Night
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Anna Kammrath, the lone senior on the team, had a night for the record books as the Saint Mary's basketball team defeated Olivet 79-59 on Kammrath's Senior Night.
The visiting Comets looked to put a damper on the night for Kammrath and the Belles as they were able to establish a quick lead against Saint Mary's. Olivet extended that lead to as much as nine points on three occasions in the first half, including a 22-13 advantage with 6:35 to go before halftime.
The Belles, however, were able to force the Comets into some turnovers and hit seven of eight free throws while outscoring Olivet 17-4 over the final six minutes of the half to turn that nine point deficit into a 30-27 lead at the break.
After having a difficult time hitting shots in the first half, the Belles had the hot shooting hands in the second half as they connected on 16-of-31 shots over the final 20 minutes for a 51.6 field goal percentage. Saint Mary's opened up the second half on a tear as they used a 23-5 over the first 7:35 of the half to put the game out of reach. Capping off that 23-5 run was a defensive rebound by Kammrath, whose outlet pass led to a layup by Maggie Ronan for the Belles' first 20+ point lead. With that defensive rebound, the senior forward surpassed Erin Newsom as the Belles' all time leading rebounder as she collected the 831st board of her career.
Kammrath and teammate Jessica Centa had solid all-around games on Tuesday night. The two shared game-high scoring honors with 18 points each on the evening. With the 18 points and 12 rebounds, Kammrath earned the 15th double-double of her career while also notching a pair of blocked shots and two steals. Centa, meanwhile, added eight boards and a game-high four assists for the Belles. Kelley Murphy added 10 points of her own as she has scored at least 10 points in 20 of the Belles' games this season.
Saint Mary's (13-11, 8-7 MIAA) will finish up the regular season on Saturday as they travel to Albion for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off against the Britons.
