Belles Downed by Knights
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's basketball team was dealt a 76-55 loss by the hands of Calvin on Saturday afternoon.
With the game tied up at 8-8 less than five minutes into the game, Calvin outscored Saint Mary's 21-9 over the next ten minutes of the first half to take a 29-17 lead. From that point on, the Knights would hold at least an eight-point lead over the remainder of the game.
In the second half, Calvin would hold at least a 10-point lead throughout the remainder of the game to take the 76-55 conference win. The Knights out-scored the Belles in the paint (28-16), off turnovers (20-10), on second chance opportunities (10-7), and in bench points (21-14). Calvin also shot 45.8% from the floor to Saint Mary's 28.8% field goal percentage.
Patsy Mahoney scored 12 of her team-high 16 points in the second half, including a deep three-pointer to cap off an 8-0 run in the second half to make the game 65-53. The junior guard also had a game-high six assists. Jessica Centa added 12 points for the Belles in Saint Mary's conference opener. Kelley Murphy and Liz Wade each notched five steals for Saint Mary's.
The Belles will hit the road for their next game, which will be a conference contest at Olivet on Tuesday, December 7. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
