Murphy Tabbed MIAA Co-Player of the Week

ROYAL OAK, Mich.  – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Hope center Carrie Snikkers and Saint Mary’s forward Kelley Murphy its Players of the Week in women’s basketball for games played through February 19.

Murphy, a junior from Olathe, Kan. (Notre Dame de Sion HS), scored 39 points and grabbed 20 rebounds as Saint Mary’s won two games to clinch a share of third place in the final MIAA standings. She scored 18 points and collected nine rebounds in just 21 minutes of play in a 73-52 win over Adrian, then had a double-double with 21 points and 11 boards as the Belles rallied to defeat Kalamazoo, 77-65. Murphy made 14 of 29 shots (48 percent) from the field and 11 of 12 (92 percent) from the line.

In the win against Kalamazoo, she also scored her 1,000th career point, becoming just the third junior in program history to accomplish the feat. She joins eight other basketball players who have eclipsed 1,000 career points in Saint Mary's history.

It is the third time this season and fourth time of her career she has been named MIAA Player of the Week.
