Belles Picked to Finish Third in MIAA Coaches’ Poll

ROYAL OAK, Mich. - The Saint Mary’s basketball team was picked to finished third in the 2010-11 basketball season by the league coaches, as announced by the conference office on Thursday.

Three-time defending MIAA champion and pre-season #3 (USA Today/ESPN Division III Coaches’ Poll) Hope was picked to successfully defend their championship while Calvin, who is ranked #20 in the same poll, was voted to finish second. Hope picked up eight first-place votes while Calvin earned a first-place vote of their own.

The voting finished as follows with first-place votes in parenthesis:
1. Hope (8) 8 pts.

3. Saint Mary’s 22
4. Albion 32
5. Adrian 41
6. Trine 45
7. Alma 50
7. Olivet 50
9. Kalamazoo 63

It is the second consecutive year the Belles have headed into the season as the third-ranked team in the pre-season coaches’ poll.

The 2010-11 season kicks off on November 16 when Saint Mary’s travels to Wheaton (Ill.) for a 6:00 p.m. CST tip-off against the Thunder. The conference season begins when the Belles host Calvin on Saturday, December 4.
