Ronan Named MVP as Belles Win Holiday Inn Select Tip-Off Tournament

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Maggie Ronan scored 12 points and was named the tournament most valuable player as the Saint Mary's basketball team defeated host North Central 75-56 in the championship game of the 2010 Holiday Inn Select Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday.

The Belles scored the first five points of the game and never trailed in the championship contest.  The tournament championship is the first for a Belles basketball squad since the 2004-05 season and a title in the Knox College Classic.

Leading all scorers in the contest was junior Kelley Murphy, who hit 7-10 shots from the field and added three free throws for a game-best 17 points. She also added three steals and two assists.  For the second consecutive game, Saint Mary's had four players in double-figure scoring. Patsy Mahoney had 15 points and three assists. Ronan and Domini Paradiso each chipped in 12 points as the Belles are off to their first 3-0 start since joining the MIAA in 1998.

The Belles will look to continue their hot start to the season when they travel to Anderson University on Tuesday, November 23 for a 7:30 p.m. contest against the Ravens.
