Printable Checklist

For Students Planning to Enroll for Fall 2015

1.  Apply for admission

  • Early Decision deadline is November 15.
  • Regular Decision deadline is February 15.

2.  Complete the 2015-16 Profile as soon as possible, but before March 1st

  • The Profile is available beginning in October.
  • Saint Mary’s code is 1702.
  • There is a small fee for filing this application.

3.  Apply for your Federal Personal Identification Numbers (PIN)

  • The PIN serves as your electronic signature and provides access to your personal information in various U.S. Department of Education systems.
  • The student and the parent will each need an individual PIN.
  • Use the same PIN number each year.
  • The parent will only have one PIN, regardless of how many children are applying for aid.

4.  Complete the 2015-16 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • Between January 1 and March 1
  • Saint Mary’s code is 001836

5.  Receive your Financial Aid award letter, including the following documents:

  • Investing in Your Future
  • Estimating Your Expenses
  • If your application has been selected for a verification review (see below) the offer will be an estimate of eligibility.  A final award letter will be sent once the verification process has been completed.

6.  If requested by Financial Aid, submit verification documents no later than May 15, which may include:

  • Submit official verification from the IRS of your tax data by choosing one of the following options:  Log back onto and correct the FAFSA by updating the income data, for both the parent and the student, with information pulled directly from the IRS tax return (using the IRS Data Retrieval Process) OR for both the parent and the student, request an official tax transcript from the IRS.

7.  Complete paperwork for Student Federal Direct Loans and Parent PLUS Loans after May 1

8.  Notify the Financial Aid Office of any other aid the student will receive


9.  If needed, sign up for the payment plan in June

10.  Receive the bill for fall semester in July

  • Subtract the financial aid from the amount due.
  • Make payment arrangements for any remaining balance.
  • Note: This bill is for the fall semester only and does not incorporate spring charges or aid.

11.  Take steps to secure a student job in August

12.  Receive the bill for spring semester in December

  • Subtract the financial aid from the amount due 
  • Make payment arrangements for any remaining balance.
