Belles Finish Fourth at MIAA Championships
ADRIAN, Mich. - The Saint Mary's cross country team matched the program's highest MIAA finish as they secured fourth place with a matching finish at the MIAA Championships on Saturday.
#1 nationally-ranked Calvin took first place with a perfect score of 15. Saint Mary's had a team score of 120, just eight points out of third place. The Belles have finished fourth in the league each of the past three years for the highest standing for the program.
Freshman Julia Kenney led the Belles for the third consecutive race of the fall with a time of 24:47.1 to finish 24th overall. Joanne Almond was the next harrier for the Belles across the finish line on Saturday. The sophomore took 36th with a time of 25:23.9. Senior Megan McClowry took 39th with a 25:34.0 at the Championships.
Juniors Clare McVey and Sam Wieczorek were not far behind McClowry to round out the top five for Saint Mary's. McVey finished 43rd with a time of 25:54.4 while Wieczorek took 45th in 25:59.0.
The Belles will have a weekend off to prepare for the NCAA Division III Regionals on November 14, which will be hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana.
