Kenney All-MIAA as Belles Claim Highest-Ever MIAA Finish at Championships
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Julia Kenney became the fifth harrier in program history to earn All-MIAA honors as the Saint Mary's cross country team clinched their highest-ever conference finish at the MIAA Championships on Saturday.
The Belles finished in third place behind nationally-ranked Calvin and Hope with a team score of 105. Since the Belles finished in third at both the MIAA Jamboree and the MIAA Championships, they took third place in the conference for the first time in the history of the program.
Julia Kenney was knocking on the door of breaking the 23 minute mark yet again on Saturday. The sophomore, who earned Second Team All-MIAA honors, finished in 14th overall and took 13th place in scoring in another PR time of 23:05.7. Emma Baker was the second Saint Mary's runner to cross the finish line at the event in 23:39.4 for a new personal record time and 22nd place.
Joanne Almond finished 26th overall with a time of 23:45.0 while Catie Salyer finished 33rd overall in 23:56.4 for a new PR. Baker, Almond, and Salyer earned 19th, 20th, and 23rd place points for the Belles as Hope and Calvin had more than their scoring five finish toward the top of the pack.
Angela Nebesny tied up the third place finish for the Belles by running a 24:40.8 (30th).
The Belles will now gear up for the NCAA Division III Regionals, hosted by Hope College, which will take place on November 13.
