Belles Take Twelfth at Pre-National Race
HANOVER, Ind. - The Saint Mary's cross country team claimed twelfth place at the Pre-National race hosted by Hanover College on Saturday.
Trinity University from Texas won the event with a team score of 44. NCAA Division II member Lewis was second with 73 points. The Belles registered a team score of 306.
Jessica Biek and Brittany Beeler led the way for the Belles. Biek finished 28th overall and was the 26th scoring runner with a time of 23:38.79. Beeler narrowly edged out a runner from Huntington to take 53rd overall and score 50 points for the team with a 24:13.65.
Allie Danhof, Katelyn Dunn, and Samee Chittenden were all scoring runners for Saint Mary's at the event. Danhof ran a 24:40.78 to finish 69th while scoring 62 points. Dunn crossed the finish line in a collegiate personal record time of 25:02.37 for 77 points while finishing 88th. Chittenden finished 107th overall and scored 92 points with a 25:21.03.
Kathryn Marshall was not far behind as the freshman finished the race in 25:34.23 to be the 116th runner to complete the course. Kaitlyn Alessi was the 128th finisher with a time of 26:00.73.
Emily Getz, Colette Curtis, and Colleen Ogren finished as a pack with Getz running a 26:37.55 (159th), Curtis taking 160th in 26:38.20, and Ogren crossing the finish 163rd in 26:40.85.
Maggie Pacana was 185th with a time of 27:26.39. Sarah Thompson finished 191st with a 27:42.47. Holly Higdon was 199th after running a 28:10.92.
The Belles are off from competition next weekend and return to action on Saturday, October 19 when they take part in the Manchester Invitational.
