Belles Claim Second at Wabash Hokum Karem


CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - The Saint Mary's cross country team opened up the 2014 season with a second place finish at the Wabash Hokum Karem race on Saturday.

In the relay-style race, DePauw University won the race after three of their relay pairs finished first, second, and third. The Belles were second after having three pairings finish fourth, tenth, and eleventh while earning fourth, fifth, and sixth place finish points as only a maximum of three groups from each school could earn placement points.

The Saint Mary's pairing of Brittany Beeler and Reilly Pieri completed the race fourth overall with a time of 36:54.6. Natalie Hawkes and Caitlin Blum were tenth overall but earned fifth place points with a 38:26.1. Allie Danhof and Katelyn Dunn wrapped up the team score after completing the race in 38:34.9 for sixth place points while finishing eleventh.

Kaitlyn Alessi and Kathryn Marshall were 12th overall with a time of 38:55.4 while Samee Chittenden and Erin Knauf were 13th after running a 39:12.9. Claiming 15th place was the duo of Alyssa Furman and Anna McClowry with a 40:39.3.

Colleen Ogren and Colleen Burke finished 19th in 41:32.8. Anna Riddle and Maggie Pacana finished 20th with a 41:50.8.

The Belles are back in action on Saturday, September 13 when they run in the Calvin Knight Invitational in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
