Cross Country Outlook

  • Six returners and six newcomers make up the Belles squad in 2018.
  • Adele Edmonds, Katie Glenn, Maura Honan, Shanan Hamilton, Emily Harrast, and Sarah Allen return to lead the pack.

The Saint Mary’s cross country team has their sights set on a successful 2018 season as the Belles continue to be a consistent force under the guidance of veteran head coach Jackie Bauters ’04.

Adele Edmonds is set to pace the pack this fall. The rising senior was the team’s top finisher in every race during the 2017 season. She set back-to-back 5k personal record times in the Belles’ first two races of her junior season. A team captain a year ago, she added a personal record 6k time in early October.

Maura Honan and Katie Glenn were both steady contributors for the team last fall. Honan finished among the top five for the Belles in each race of her sophomore year and cut nearly 40 seconds off of her 6k time from the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble to the MIAA Championship two weeks later. Glenn, meanwhile, finished among the top five runners for Saint Mary’s in five races a year ago. The junior posted a huge time cut of a minute and 54 seconds from Oberlin to the MIAA Championship as she finished third among the Belles’ runners at the conference event.

Emily Harrast, Shanan Hamilton, Sarah Allen are all set to return in 2018. Harrast and Hamilton competed in and finished each of the team’s seven competitions while having at least three top-five finishes for the Belles. Allen is back with the squad and will be an immediate contributor in her senior season. Six newcomers round out the team in 2018 as the Belles aim to take a top-four finish in the MIAA standings this fall.

The season kicks off on Saturday, September 1 when the team competes in the Franklin Grizzly Invitational in Shelbyville, Indiana. The MIAA Championship race takes place on October 27 and is hosted by Kalamazoo at Eastern Hills Golf Club.
