Gerontology Program Requirements
This interdisciplinary minor requires a minimum of 15 credit hours and integrates well with requirements for most majors. One of the courses can be taken as an independent study or clinical experience in the student's major if a substantive portion of the learning involves gerontology content. Please see course listings/descriptions. Examples of the integration of this minor with majors at the College include business majors interested in marketing to "boomers", political science majors(pre-law) interested in elder law, social work majors, or nursing majors, or biology majors (pre-med) or psychology/communication disorders majors interested in working with older adults and their families. Music majors may be interested in music therapy with older adults, and communication majors may be interested in integrating this minor into their work in publications. Talk with Dr. Burke or any of the faculty teaching gerontology courses to see how you can design an innovative learning experience that will prepare you to work in today's society and to develop an exciting career path!
