The Biology Club
The Biology Club is open to all students interested in biology. The club organizes various fundraisers and events, hosts the spring Senior Symposia, and provides tutoring.
Xi Chi is the Saint Mary's Chapter of Beta Beta Beta, the national biological honor society. From the BBB Web site:
"Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) is a society for students, particularly undergraduates, dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research. Since its founding in 1922, more than 200,000 persons have been accepted into lifetime membership, and more than 520 chapters have been established throughout the United States and Puerto Rico."
Xi Chi invites qualifying sophomore biology majors to become members during the spring semester, usually in late March. Annual initiation ritual is held in late April.
The Mother M. Rose Elizabeth Biology Award: to a student whose work in biology through academics and service to the department merits particular commendation.
The Sister M. Rosaleen Dunleavy Allied Medical Health Award: to a student in biology who is recognized for excellence in an allied medical field.
The George and Juanda Bick Nature Award: to a student whose work in envrionmental biology merits particular commendation.
