Fast on Her Feet - Kelly Lyons '11
Fast on Her Feet
Rising senior Kelly Lyons has always been an organized person. That’s why the Chardon, Ohio, native thinks she would make a great public relations representative. “I am very organized and fast on my feet. I think that PR is a field that is always changing and I know I would get bored in a job that was the same day in and day out,” Kelly says.
She will have the opportunity to put her fast feet to work this summer as a PR intern with the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend. There, she will gain practical experience contacting news organizations, assisting with special events, and writing press releases. The internship will be a fitting way to apply the skills she has developed in her coursework through Saint Mary’s public relations minor. The minor is packed with challenging courses in marketing, advertising, journalism, techniques in persuasion.
Kelly is also working toward a double major in communication studies and history. As if two majors and a minor weren’t enough to keep this go-getter busy, Kelly was just elected president of her class, a post she will take up in the fall. She ran for office this year with friend Megan Flynn '11, and the two have high hopes for the impact they will make in their senior year.
A real “people person,” Kelly is bringing sound leadership skills to her new position. She is already a member of the Junior Class Board and Saint Mary’s Class Gift Campaign program. She knows from experience that student involvement is key to the success of student government. “I want to make sure that everyone’s opinions are considered and that our senior year is the best that it can be,” she says.
After graduation, Kelly wants to work in public relations for a music label, museum, or sports team. Her life is never without a soundtrack as she confesses to being a big music fan and listening to music “all the time.” And the career path she has chosen looks to be a perfect medley of her passions.
