Belles Take First at DePauw Small College Classic

CLAYTON, Ind. - The nationally ranked Saint Mary's College golf team finished first in a field of 16 teams at the DePauw University Small College Classic on Sunday.

After play was suspended yesterday at the Deer Creek Golf Course, the field had to complete yesterday's round and today's round on Sunday.  The Belles fired a 315 in the first round and followed that up with a 320 to take first with a 625.  Saint Mary's finished 18 strokes ahead of second place DePauw (653).

Martyna Mierzwa earned her third medalist honor of the fall with a 76 and a 78 (154) to lead the field of 99 golfers.  Teammate Natalie Matuszak shot the second-best round on day two with a 77 to follow up an 80 in the first round to finish in second with a 157.

Mary Kate Boyce and Perri Hamma finished in a tie for ninth place as the pair finished the tournament with totals of 162.  Rosie O'Connor rounded out the top five for the Belles with a 171 (t-27th) on the weekend.

The Belles will travel to Kalamazoo on Thursday for the third of four MIAA Jamborees.  The round, which will be played at Milham Park, will begin at 1:00 p.m.
