Belles Edge Comets to Win Fourth Jamboree
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The #2/#4 Saint Mary's College golf team managed to claim first at the final MIAA Jamboree of the fall season with a 327 at Blackthorn to beat Olivet by two strokes on Saturday.
The Belles' 327 at Blackthorn was an MIAA course record. Saint Mary's was seven strokes better than the previous record of 334 set by Olivet in 2006. Hope's Megan Scholten was the medalist at the event with the low round of 77, which was a course record for an individual MIAA round.
Martyna Mierzwa led the Belles once again with a 79 to take second place. Mary Kate Boyce was right behind her with an 80 to take third place. Natalie Matuszak and Rosie O'Connor tied three other golfers for ninth place as the pair both shot an 84 on the day. Perri Hamma, meanwhile, rounded out the top five with an 87.
The Belles will now enter the MIAA Tournament with a 17-stroke lead over second place Olivet. The MIAA Championships will be played next weekend at Bedford Valley Golf Course in Bedford Valley, Michigan, on Friday and Saturday.
