2010 NCAA Golf Championships - Day Two

Matuszak Alone at Top of Board as Belles Stay in Fourth

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Natalie Matuszak is alone at the top of the scoreboard as the #8 nationally ranked Saint Mary's golf team maintained their fourth place standing after the second day at the NCAA Division III Championships.

Matuszak holds a one stroke overall advantage over three players, including teammate Mary Kate Boyce, to hold sole possession of first place as the tournament reached its midway point today.  The sophomore shot a 79 (+6), which paired with her 76 yesterday gives her a two-day total of 155.

The Belles shot a 330 on the day to keep hold of their fourth place standing through two days of play.  The score was the second best team score of the day behind only Wisconsin-Eau Claire's round of 320.  Coupled with yesterday's score of 336, the Belles hold fourth place behind leader Methodist (650), Wisconsin-Eau Claire (651), and Gustavus Adolphus (663).

Boyce, meanwhile, made up a little ground as she moved up from a tie for seventh to currently hold a share of second place.  She fired 77 (+4) on the day to match the lowest round of Wednesday's play.  Boyce and Paige Caldwell and Alana Swain of Methodist University are all tied for second.

Perri Hamma and Rosie O'Connor each made improvements to their scores from Tuesday's round to keep the Belles on track.  Hamma cut five strokes off of yesterday's score as she turned in an 86, moving her up from tied for 71st to tied for 51st.  O'Connor, meanwhile, shaved seven strokes off of her score as she carded an 88 on the day, improving her from t-93rd to t-73rd.

Christine Brown rounded out the five participants' scores for the Belles with a 96 on the day as she is tied for 85th in the 105 golfer field.

The pairings and tee times will all be rearranged based off of current standings.  The Belles will be paired up with fifth place Williams College and DePauw University for tomorrow's round.  Tee times have yet to be announced.
