Belles in Third after First Day of O'Brien National Invitational

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The #13 Saint Mary's College golf team is currently in third place behind #1 Methodist and #5 Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a 317 after day one of the O'Brien National Invitational.

Methodist currently holds first place with a 303 while Wisconsin-Eau Claire shot a 309 on Sunday.

Martyna Mierzwa led the way for the Belles with a 76 on the day, which is good enough for a share of third place.  Mary Kate Boyce, meanwhile, was not far behind as she fired a 79 (t-12) at the Warren Golf Course at the University of Notre Dame.

Natalie Matuszak was right on Boyce's heals for the day after carding an 80, giving her a share of 16th.  Rosie O'Connor sits in a tie for 23rd with an 82 for the Belles.  Senior Perri Hamma had an 88 on the day to round out the top five for Saint Mary's.

With the top-nine ranked teams in NCAA Division III women's golf in the field, Methodist's Alana Swain holds sole possession of first place after a blistering 72 on the day.  15 different golfers all shot below an 80 on the day.

The second and final day of competition will begin tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. at the Warren Golf Course.
