GEORGETOWN, Texas - The #3 nationally ranked Saint Mary's golf team is well within striking distance as they sit just three strokes behind in second place after the first day of the Southwestern University Invitational.
The Belles posted a 339 on day one of the event and are sitting right behind the host Pirates, who shot a 336 on Monday.
Natalie Matuszak and Mary Kate Boyce were strong in the first of two days of competition in the outing. Matuszak was second overall after shooting an 80. Boyce, meanwhile, finished third with an 82.
Rosie O'Connor finished in a tie for 14th with an 88 and Christine Brown tied for 18th with an 89. Perri Hamma rounded out the scoring five for the Belles with a 98 for a share of 29th.
The Belles will look to surpass the Pirates in day two as they will tee off beginning at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Berry Creek Country Club.
