SMC at Southwestern Invitational - Day Two
Belles Finish Third at Southwestern Invitational
GEORGETOWN, Texas - The #3 Saint Mary's golf team was narrowly edged out by UT-Tyler as they finished third at the Southwestern University Invitational with a two-day score of 693.
The host Pirates of Southwestern University claimed first place with a score of 677 while UT-Tyler took second with a team score of 689. Kristen Davenport of Southwestern earned medalist honors with a 79 on day two and a combined score of 164.
Natalie Matsuzak finished up the tournament with an 86 on day two and finished second overall with a 166 two-day score to lead the Belles. Mary Kate Boyce also shot an 86 on Tuesday to finish two strokes behind Matuszak with a 168 for a share of fourth place. The two were both named to the All-Tournament Team for their top five finishes in the event.
Rosie O'Connor turned in the third-best score at the tournament for Saint Mary's as she finished in 18th with a 181 after shooting a 93 on day two. Christine Brown turned in a 97 for a combined total of 186 for the tournament to finish in 23rd. Perri Hamma, meanwhile, had the biggest improvement from day one to day two for the Belles as she shaved nine strokes off of her score from Monday to card an 89 on Tuesday for a share of 24th place and a two-day score of 187.
Megan Ryan and Cara Kielty both competed as individuals for the Belles in the tournament. Ryan finished with a score of 189 to tie for 26th while Kielty finished with a 198 in 33rd.
The Belles will next be in action on Saturday, April 10, when they host Trine University for a dual match at the South Bend Country Club beginning at noon.
