Boyce Leads Blistering Round by Belles at George Fox Invitational
PEORIA, Ariz. - Mary Kate Boyce smashed the previous school record with one of the lowest rounds of women's Division III golf to lead the #10 Belles to a team school record round of 302 at day one of the George Fox Women's Collegiate Invitational.
The Belles' 302 is six strokes better than the host George Fox's 308 on the day to lead the field heading into the second day of play on Saturday. The team broke the school record for a low 18-hole round of 304 set in September 2004 at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Tournament.
The senior fired a 66 in the first of two days of play at the Westbrook Village Golf Course on Friday. Her round is five strokes better than the previous school record of 71.
Classmate Rosie O'Connor fired a 77 while junior Natalie Matuszak shot a 79 for the Belles. Freshman Marin Beagley wrapped up the 302 for the team with a score of 80 while fellow freshman Doyle O'Brien was the fifth scoring-eligible golfer for Saint Mary's, who finished with an 81.
The two-day tournament will conclude tomorrow in Arizona.
