Belles Claim First Place at Trine Invitational
ANGOLA, Ind. - The nationally ranked Saint Mary's golf team got off to a strong start in the fall 2010 season as they took first place at the Trine Invitational over the weekend.
The Belles shot a 331 on Saturday and followed that round up with a 329 on Sunday to take the win. Saint Mary's edged out NAIA Marian University by eight strokes.
Consistency was the key for Saint Mary's over the weekend as the scoring four players finished in third, fourth, fifth, and tied for sixth. Mary Kate Boyce led the way with a 79 on Saturday and an 84 on Sunday to finish third. Doyle O'Brien shaved four strokes off of her 84 from Saturday to turn in an 80 today for fourth place. Right behind O'Brien was Rosie O'Connor, who finished fifth with scores of 84 and 82. Rounding out the scoring four for the Belles was Marin Beagley, who finished tied for sixth with scores of 84 and 83. Jessica Kinnick was the fifth scoring eligible player for the Belles, finishing 16th with a two-day total of 188.
Alexi Bown (88-88, 9th), Paige Pollak (88-92, 12th), Megan Ryan (91-95, 15th), Hayley Miller (98-93, 18th), and Christine Brown (100-95, 22nd) all played for the Belles as well in the first tournament of the year.
The Belles will next be in action on Saturday, September 11 at the first MIAA Jamboree of the year hosted by Alma College at Pine River.
