SOCIOLOGY MAJOR STRUCTURE

Introductory level courses (6 credit hours)

These courses provide students with an introduction to the discipline of sociology and include topics such as sociological theory, sociology research methods, key sociological concepts, and introduce various areas of study within the field of sociology.

Core Sociology Courses (13 credit hours)

These courses teach research skills and theoretical frameworks necessary for sociology majors to conduct basic sociological research.

Category 1: Social Institutions within the Social Structures (6 credit hours or two courses)

These courses focus on various social structures and/or significant social institutions.

These courses focus on inequalities in American society and/or in the global social system due to the social constructs of race, ethnicity, gender, class, sexual orientation, and/or nationality.
