Faculty and Administrators Borrowing Information

A current Saint Mary's College photo identification card appropriately barcoded is required. Faculty and administrators may borrow books from any of the libraries in the PALNI (Private Academic Library Network of Indiana) Consortium by requesting those books through the online catalog.  Interlibrary loan services are also available to Saint Mary's College faculty and administrators.Loan Periods:

  • Books: May 31, 20xx of current academic year
  • Audio Visual: 14 days
  • Leisure Reading Collection: 30 days
  • Bound Periodicals: 3 days
  • Reserve Books: 2 hrs. in the library
  • Unbound Periodicals and Newspapers.......May be used in the library

"Courtesy Renewal Reminders" are sent to faculty and administrators in April.  If a faculty member is leaving the college, they should return all library materials before Commencement.  Other materials may be renewed online using "My Account" for another loan period unless the material has been requested.

The online catalog is available for searching for materials. Please inquire at the circulation desk 284-5278 if the material you require is not on the shelf. All circulating materials, with the exception of course reserve materials, are subject to being recalled for use by another patron if they have been in circulation for a certain length of time. A recall may be issued for books after they have been in circulation for a minimum of 7 days. Recalls may be placed from the online catalog through "My Account."
Course reserve materials are can be searched by instructor name, course name/number and title. Printed lists of course reserve materials, organized by instructors' names and course numbers are also available in notebooks at the circulation desk.

It is the responsibility of the patron to return library materials on time. Patrons with library materials that are not returned or renewed by the due date will receive overdue notices and, ultimately, bills. Overdue reminders will be sent primarily via e-mail. Bills are sent via snail-mail.  Failure to receive overdue reminders does not exempt you from the due date.
Items not returned after 30 days from the due date will be presumed lost. A lost book fee* of $40.00 will be automatically assessed.

A detailed bill will be sent to the faculty or administrator with the expectation that prompt payment will be made for the replacement of lost materials. Checks should be made to "Saint Mary's College" and sent to the library director for processing. Unpaid library charges may result in patron borrowing privileges being restricted until the matter is resolved. A refund will be given for material found and returned to the Library within in one year after it has been billed.
Questions about this policy should be directed to the Collection Management Supervisor.
