"Bone Machine: Kristin Stransky"
Little Theater & Sister Rosaire galleries
The work of Saint Mary's College alumna Kristin Stransky '07 integrates fiber and electronic mediums. This unique platform allows her to explore the intersections of craft, gender, social interaction and experience, emotion and technology. Stransky will be leading a workshop before the opening reception during which she will demonstrate how to embed electronics into fabric. She will then provide a gallery tour focusing on the electronics in her work.
"Made Up: Marilyn Minter"
This exhibition considers makeup's materiality and its role in gendered performances that elicit desire and construct femininity. On view are two works by internationally renown contemporary artist Marilyn Minter--a recent video work, Green Pink Caviar (2009), and an early photograph, Mom in Negligee (1969/1995). Green Pink Caviar (2009) is on loan from Marilyn Minter's studio Salon 94 and Mom in Negligee is on loan from the Faulconer Gallery, Grinnell College Art Collection. The exhibition was curated by gallery director and assistant professor of art Tiffany Johnson Bidler.
