Biography

Kelly Harrington is an artist, adjunct lecturer, licensed K-12 art specialist and college supervisor for pre-service art teachers with the Education department. She has been teaching various courses for the Art department at Saint Mary’s since 2001 including Art Encounter, Drawing and Art Education. She has taught art for 20 years to preschool-college students in various settings including public and private schools, local museums and through individual lessons. Harrington has developed and taught comprehensive curricula for elementary schools, afterschool programs for both artistically talented and at-risk students and has been active in researching and developing courses in the Art department.

Harrington has received several awards and research grants in support of her work as an educator and artist. Her research interests include contemporary comprehensive art education in public schools and pre-service teacher education as well as designing art courses for non-art majors. She utilizes color symbolism, abstraction and appropriation in her figurative paintings which are presently focused on themes of identity and emotional experience.
