The 2021 Spring Endowed Lecture Series is focused on “Spirituality, Ethics and Health Care.” COVID-19 has rapidly changed the way we live and the way we respond spiritually and ethically to those in need. This series will look at questions of Catholic Bioethics in light of the pandemic, global health and human rights, spirituality and the option for the poor, and human dignity in light of racial disparities in health care.
The Center for Spirituality is pleased to welcome Cory D. Mitchell, D. Bioethics.
Mitchell is the Director of Mission Integration for Mercy Health Muskegon (member of Trinity Health). He earned a graduate degree in Health Care Mission Leadership, as well as a Doctorate in Bioethics and Health Policy at the Loyola University Chicago Neiswanger Institute for Bioethics and Health Policy. Having served in the U.S. Navy, as a research intern at Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health, and a program specialist intern at the National Institutes of Health Institute on Aging, Cory has significant experience working with vulnerable populations, including veterans and persons who are homeless. As an African American Catholic, his research interests are Catholic health care, health disparities, and theological ethics. As a husband and father, Cory is currently seeking to expand his vocational service by entering into the initial formation phase of the Secular Franciscans, even though brown isn’t his best color.
Founded in 1984 with generous support from the Sisters of the Holy Cross, the Center for Spirituality offers programs that promote the engagement between faith and reason and the connection between mind, body, and spirit.
