Professor Kevin McDonnell held the Edna and George McMahon Aquinas Chair in philosophy.  He taught a wide range of courses in the department: ethics, medical ethics, philosophy of law, philosophy of science, Socrates to scholasticism, and logic.  As do all philosophy faculty, he taught the introductory course every semester.  His recent publications concern issues in medical ethics, and he chairs the ethics committees at Logan Center and at Memorial Hospital.  Tough Decisions, co-authored with John Freeman, MD, is published by Oxford University Press.  His earlier work dealt with the natural law, its history and its implications for current moral issues.  He is active in College affairs and has served on numerous councils and committees.  He has been parliamentarian to the Faculty Assembly.  He retired at the end of the 2009/10 academic year.
