One of the most exciting aspects of the English department's Internship Program has been its Apprentice Writer Program. To address students' interest in, particular, careers in book publishing, the department has matched interested students in partnerships with faculty writers. Students have worked with professors from various disciplines, including Religious Studies, Communication Arts, Social Work, CWIL, History, and, of course, English writing and literature. Topics have ranged from a research project about midwifery in Mexico to a scholarly book published in Germany.

In these partnerships, students provide research, fact checking, proofreading, editing, and reader response, among other duties, for faculty at work on articles for scholarly journals or book-length manuscripts, whether scholarly or creative works.
