We are pleased to announce the launch of the search for Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs. This role is profoundly important, with primary responsibility for ensuring academic excellence across the college, in keeping with the College’s strategic plan and priorities. As the chief academic officer, the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs will provide vision and leadership for the College’s academic programs. S/he will advocate for academic innovation related to new and emerging trends in higher education including discerning use of technology in online, hybrid, and traditional courses. This includes support for the development of faculty and staff scholarship, research, and pedagogical innovations. The ideal candidate will also seek opportunities to partner with other institutions and to explore and expand online and adult education.

In order to help identify the best candidates for this critical position, President Jan Cervelli has appointed a Provost Search committee, to be co-chaired by Cassie Majetic, Associate Professor, Biology and George Keegan, Special Assistant to the President, Strategic Initiatives. Search committee members are:

  • Judith Fean, Vice President of Mission
  • Gloria Jenkins, Interim Vice President of Student Affairs
  • Leslie Wang. Associate Professor, Sociology & Interim Director of Diversity and Inclusion
  • Linda Paskiewicz, Professor, Nursing Science & Dean of Graduate Studies
  • Kara O’Leary, Executive Director, Alumnae and College Relations
  • Madeleine Corcoran, Senior, Student Body President

The committee will be assisted by the executive search firm, Academic Search, Inc.

While we intend to move expeditiously, the committee has been encouraged to look broadly for outstanding candidates, both within our community and among proven leaders outside the college who understand the uniqueness of Saint Mary’s and the distinct opportunities open to us right now.

Nominations from the community are encouraged and should be submitted as soon as possible to the nomination form so that we can reach out to candidates who will need to apply by September 20 to ensure full consideration. The search committee will interview candidates in October with the expectation of finalist interviews in November. Although the process must promise confidentiality in order to attract the best candidates, there will be regular updates from the search co-chairs and opportunities for faculty, students, staff and alumnae to be highly engaged in the finalist interviews.

Sincerely,
Cassie Majetic and George Keegan
