Belles Battle to 1-1 Tie with Hiram
HIRAM, Ohio - Katie Wehrli notched a late goal to tie the game at 1-1 and the Saint Mary's College soccer team eventually tied Hiram after two overtime periods on Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Terriers gained an early 1-0 advantage on a goal in the 14th minute of play.
Facing the 1-0 deficit late in the contest, the Belles pushed an extra attacker up to battle for the equalizer. In the 90th minute, senior Katie Wehrli found the back of the net with her first goal since October of her sophomore season to force overtime.
In the overtime periods, the Lady Terriers put a pair of shots on goal, but senior goalkeeper Patty Duffy picked up her fourth and fifth saves of the game to end the game in a 1-1 tie.
The Belles had six different players register shots in the contest while Duffy had five saves in 110 minutes of play.
After a week on the road, the Belles return home on Friday to face cross-town rival Bethel College. The Belles and Pilots are slated to kick off at 5:00 p.m.
