Belles Edged by Hornets
VICKSBURG, Mich. - The Saint Mary's soccer team was edged out by MIAA foe Kalamazoo by a 3-2 score on Saturday afternoon.
The Belles got on the scoreboard first on a goal by Ashley Morfin just past the 20 minute mark. Katelyn Tondo-Steele picked up an assist to help Saint Mary's to the 1-0 lead.
A little more than 12 minutes later, Kalamazoo knotted the game at 1-1 and the contest would stay tied at the half.
Kalamazoo netted back-to-back goals in the 54th and 56th minutes to go up 3-1. The Belles cut the lead to 3-2 in the 80th minute when Micki Hedinger connected with Katy Durkin for the senior's sixth goal of the season. The Belles, however, would not be able to find the equalizer and fell by the 3-2 score.
Saint Mary's held a 4-2 margin on corner kicks over the Hornets in the contest while Kalamazoo out-shot the Belles by a 16-10 mark.
Adele Bruggeman made seven saves in goal in 59 minutes of play for the Belles. Patty Duffy added a pair of saves of her own in 31 minutes in goal for Saint Mary's.
The Belles will conclude their season next Wednesday when they travel to Olivet College for a 4:00 p.m. contest against the Comets.
