Belles Silence Thunder
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Colleen Ferguson opened up the flood gates for the Belles in the 16th minute and the Saint Mary's College soccer team went on to take a 6-0 win over MIAA foe Trine.
The Belles had three goals in the first half and three more in the second half to pick up their first MIAA win of the season on Saturday.
After Ferguson's goal, Katy Durkin and Taylor Paton both scored goals late in the first half and Bridget Ronayne picked up an assist to give the Belles a 3-0 lead at the half.
In the second half, Durkin added her second goal of the game to start off the second half. Just over five minutes after Durkin's second goal of the day, Sam Smogor joined the scoring action with a goal of her own in the 62nd minute. Bridget Ronayne, meanwhile, added a penalty kick in the 73rd minute to wrap up the Belles' scoring.
Patty Duffy and Adele Bruggeman shared the shut-out over the Thunder as each goalkeeper played a half of the game while each picking up a save.
The Belles will next take on the Calvin College Knights at the Saint Mary's soccer field on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
