SMC vs. Adrian
Belles Unable to Capitalize Opportunities Against Bulldogs
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The 2-0 score was not indicative of how the game was played as the Saint Mary's soccer team fell to Adrian in an MIAA contest on Saturday.
The Bulldogs jumped on the scoreboard first as McKenzie Doda put away a header in the seventh minute of play. Adrian would go on to add another goal in the first half on a free kick from outside the 18 yard box.
The scoreboard did not reflect the many scoring chances Saint Mary's had throughout the contest on Saturday. Jordan Diffenderfer had a frozen rope of a shot from inside the 18 yard box caught by the Bulldogs' goalkeeper above her head. Ashley Morfin had a shot rattle off the crossbar and down, but not across the goal line. Mollie Valencia's flick off a corner kick and header off a later corner kick both rolled just wide of the post. A breakaway opportunity for the Belles was negated as it was whistled offside. Late in the game, Diffenderfer narrowly beat the Adrian keeper to a ball inside the box, but her chip shot was cleared away from the line by the Bulldog defense.
Caitlin Walsh had ten saves in goal as she closes in on 100 saves for the season heading into the season finale next week.
The Belles will travel to Trine for the final game of the 2010 season as the in-state MIAA foes face off on Wednesday, October 27 at 4:00 p.m.
