SMC vs. Franklin

Belles Shut Down Grizzlies

Box Score

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's soccer team picked up their second straight home shutout on Sunday with a 3-0 win over Franklin.

Mollie Valencia got the Belles on the scoreboard in the 34th minute.  The freshman's first shot was blocked inside the box, but she recovered the ball and fired a shot into the back of the net for what would be the game-winner.  Just under five minutes later, Katelyn Tondo-Steele would tally her second goal of the year.  Kerry Puckett carried the ball up the field and launched a pass into the box, which Tondo-Steele settled and scored for the 2-0 Saint Mary's lead.

Saint Mary's wrapped up the scoring late in the second half.  Mollie Valencia sent a pass arching into the 18 yard box from the right side of the field to Maddie Meckes, who notched her first goal of the 2010 campaign for the 3-0 margin of victory.

The Belles stayed in control throughout the game, limiting the visiting Grizzlies to just four shots in total and one shot on goal.  The Belles, meanwhile, tallied 34 total shots and 14 shots on goal.

Caitlin Walsh picked up her second shutout win in goal for Saint Mary's.

The Belles will open up their conference portion of the season this week when they travel to #15 Calvin on Wednesday.
