Belles Fall in Nail-biter to Flying Dutch
HOLLAND, Mich. - The Saint Mary's soccer team was on the wrong end of a 1-0 decision against Hope on Wednesday evening.
The Flying Dutch notched the lone goal of the game in the 11th minute of play when Alyson Epolito poked in a shot from outside the six yard box for her fourth goal of the season.
The defensive back line was resolute in shutting down the Hope offense for the remainder of the game. The Flying Dutch were able to get just five of their 22 total shots on goal as Saint Mary's limited the scoring opportunities.
The Belles, meanwhile, looked to have the equalizer early in the second half. Maddie Meckes' corner kick was met by Taylor Paton, whose shot ricocheted off the cross bar in the 51st minute. Three different players had multiple shots in the game for Saint Mary's in the loss.
Caitlin Walsh had four saves in goal for the Belles.
Saint Mary's will return home to host Kalamazoo on Friday afternoon with the kick-off against the Hornets being slated for 4:00 p.m.
