SMC vs. Marian
Belles Defeated by Knights
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Saint Mary's soccer team fell by a 6-2 margin to NAIA Marian University (Ind.) on Sunday afternoon.
The Knights were able to score early in the first half to gather momentum from the get-go. Marian notched four goals in the opening 20 minutes and led 5-0 at the half.
A determined Saint Mary's squad battled back in the second half and outscored the Knights 2-1 in the second 45 minutes of play. Trailing 6-0, Maddie Meckes got the Belles on the scoreboard in the 74th minute with her second goal of the season. Taylor Paton, meanwhile, cleaned up a rebound off of a saved shot and connected with the second goal of her collegiate career to cut the lead to 6-2 in the 83rd minute.
Kristen Nelson collected two saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal for the first time since early September.
The Belles return to MIAA play this week when they travel to Hope on Wednesday for a 5:00 p.m. contest against the Flying Dutch.
