Belles Squad Picks Up United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Saint Mary's soccer team was one of 532 college-level women's soccer programs to be named as a Team Academic Award winner for their academic efforts in the 2016-17 year by the United Soccer Coaches.

According to the United Soccer Coaches website, College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point of average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster. The Saint Mary's soccer team had a cumulative GPA of 3.39 for the 2016-17 academic year to pick up the honor.

"I'm proud of the work every one of our program's student-athletes dedicates to her academics," said head coach Jesse Urquhart. "Every player is intelligent, self-aware, and committed her academic success. It's not easy to be a successful student-athlete, but our players are passionate, committed, and determined to succeed."

The Belles were joined on the 2016-17 list by fellow MIAA members Albion, Calvin, and Kalamazoo. The Saint Mary's soccer program has earned the recognition 13 times since 2004.
