With renewed energy and young talent, the Belles soccer program is set on an upward path in 2017. Six returners and ten newcomers make up a squad that has shown promise and a collective aim to achieve success.
The six returning Belles – Emily Lambert, Emily Beedie, Kellen Hinchey, Callie Doyle, Thallia Robles, and Maddie Green – come back to the pitch with more than 130 combined appearances. Lambert’s role on the team has increased in each year as the senior has had an uptick in the games played in each season of her career. Beedie has taken to the field in each of the team’s 36 games of her first two seasons, and Hinchey and Doyle each saw time in every game a year ago. Robles and Green each made significant contributions to playing time in 2016.
Hinchey is the Belles’ leading returning scorer from last season as the sophomore midfielder netted a goal and tallied a team-high three assists. Robles, meanwhile, had team-highs of 1427 minutes in goal, 149 saves, and 16 appearances in goal during her freshman campaign.
Each of the ten newcomers to the squad will vie for time from the start of the season. Among that group are student-athletes who were team MVPs, all-conference selections, league champions, team captains, area athletes of the year, and more.
The Belles open the 2017 campaign on their home pitch on Friday, September 1 when they host North Park University at 6:00 p.m. The conference slate of competition starts on Wednesday, September 6 at the Belles’ Purcell Athletic Fields against Olivet at 7:00 p.m.
