MIAA Player of the Week
Peterson Again Named MIAA Position Player of the Week
ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Saint Mary’s outfielder Ashley Peterson its Position Player of the Week in softball for games played through April 25.
Peterson, a senior from Lansing, Ill. (Marian Catholic HS), tied two MIAA single-season records last week in helping the Belles gain a split of a key road doubleheader with Hope. She homered in both games, including a two-run shot in the opener that put Saint Mary’s ahead to stay in an 8-4 victory. With four league games remaining, Peterson now has seven home runs in MIAA play, tying the record set by Hope’s Kelli Duimstra last year, and her 24 RBIs in league play matches the mark set by Alma’s Brandee Brower in 2000.
Moreover, she also set a new Saint Mary's record for hits in a season with her game two home run against the Flying Dutch. Peterson broke the record of 55 hits in a season, which she set in 2008. She also currently holds the Saint Mary's records for home runs in a season (9) and RBIs in a season (46). She is being honored as Position Player of the Week for the second time this season and the fifth time in her career.
