Peterson Earns Third MIAA Position Player of the Week Honor

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Saint Mary’s outfielder Ashley Peterson its Position Player of the Week for games played through May 2.

Peterson, a senior from Lansing, Ill. (Marian Catholic HS), completed a record-breaking regular season by going 5-for-8 at the plate with five walks and seven RBIs as Saint Mary’s split four MIAA games. Peterson broke the MIAA single-season record for home runs with eight and RBIs with 31, and finished with an MIAA-career record 68 RBIs in league play.

Also with the conclusion of the conference regular season, Peterson became the fifth player in league softball history to be a two-time MIAA batting champion. She finished the regular season with a .549 average (28-for-51), which was thirty points better than the next closest average in league games this spring.  The senior also was the conference's batting champion during her sophomore season in 2008.

Peterson is being honored as Position Player of the Week for the third time this season and the sixth time in her career.
