Belles Split on Final Day in Florida
FORT MYERS, Fla. - On their final day of games on their Spring Break trip, the Saint Mary's softball team lost their first game 5-0 but finished strong with a big 8-0 win in five innings on Thursday.
The Belles opened the day with a 5-0 loss to Heidelberg. Kristen Nelson was 2-for-2 from the dish with a walk and Morgan Bedan added a 2-for-3 effort for Saint Mary's. Angela Gillis suffered her first loss of the season, going the distance in the game while surrendering a pair of unearned runs and striking out two.
In game two, the Belles needed just five innings to wrap up their spring trip with an 8-0 win over SUNY Potsdam. Hayley Bojorquez had a big game at the plate as she went 3-for-3 with two home runs, two runs scored, and five RBIs.
Ashley Peterson and Lauren Enayati were also perfect from the plate in game two. Peterson was 4-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI while Enayati went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base. Angela Gillis, Sara Montelongo, and Kristen Nelson each added two hits of their own in the win and combined to score four runs.
Monica Palicki earned the win in the circle. The sophomore struck out six and allowed just one hit - a single by the lead off hitter in the game.
After the Belles (6-4) return from the Sunshine State, they are slated to take on Goshen College at Goshen on Tuesday, March 16 for a doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m.
